A briquette-making press works by converting loose biomass—such as sawdust, rice husk, wood chips, straw, or agricultural waste—into a compact solid fuel by applying high pressure.

  1. 1. Raw material preparation
    The biomass is cleaned and, if necessary, dried to the moisture level recommended for the particular machine. Large pieces are usually crushed into a suitable particle size.

    2. Feeding
    The prepared material is continuously fed into the machine through the hopper.

    3. Compression
    A piston, screw, or hydraulic mechanism pushes the biomass into a compression chamber. High pressure reduces the spaces between particles and increases their density.

    4. Binding and densification
    Heat generated by friction and compression can soften the natural lignin in woody biomass, helping the particles bond together. Some feedstocks may need an additional binder.

    5. Briquette formation
    The compressed material is forced through a die, which determines the briquette’s shape and diameter.

    6. Cutting and cooling
    In continuous machines, the emerging briquette is cut into the desired length. It is then cooled and allowed to stabilize before storage.

    7. Storage
    Finished briquettes should be protected from rain and high humidity because moisture can reduce their strength and combustion performance.
